We Are the Grateful Recipients of Five Grants for Our Programs!

Dear Amigos!

We have been blessed with support from our community and we are grateful to be able to announce several new gifts of support!

We received funding from:
1.The Ahmanson Foundation for our Early Start program

2. the Orange County Community Foundation to purchase violins for our Suzuki Violin program


3. Festival of Children Foundation for our new Pre-Kinder Arts Program

4. Zonta Foundation to provide Scholarships to Teen Moms for their babies so they can enroll in college and our Job Training program at OCCTAC.

The Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center (OCCTAC) is a 501(c)3 community-based ARTS organization dedicated to education and empowerment of at-risk youth and children with special needs of limited resources.
Founded in 2000, and adjacent to the Bowers Museum, is a place where emotion is in motion. Children express joy through instruments often cut from public school budgets: the harp, violin, guitar and drum, to name a few. They demonstrate wonder with paintbrushes, crayons and pencil. They offer hope with their feet, tapping to the sounds of everything from traditional Mexican song to European classical music.
The ARTS center is the first and only organization in Orange County offering unique programming that combines the arts, academics and creative therapies to help youth realize their highest potential.
We cannot do this without the help of our community. Please get involved!

We will be playing on some of those violins during Spring Break for SOCAL Sister Cities Conference in Anaheim. What a privilege it is to be invited to play the National Anthem to open their meeting. Advanced violin students are available to play for events in the community for honorariums and donations to help programs at the center.

Welcome Mexican Consul Alejandra Garcia Williams!

We had a fiesta! On Wednesday, March 24th, 2010, we welcomed the new Mexican Consul Titular Alejandra Garcia Williams and Consul Para Asuntos Comunitarios Lourdes Chàvez to our center. OCCTAC Board President Mary Ellen Lohnes, Consul Alejandra Garcia Wiliams, OCCTAC president Dr. Ana Jimènez-Hami The Consuls did not come empty-handed! Many of our students had participated in the international "Este es mi México" annual children's art contest, sponsored by the government of México. Thousands of pieces of art work were sent to Mexico City where a committee of professional artist painters judged the entries. The Consuls came to OCCTAC to congratulate the students who received a certificate of excellence! Consul Garcia Williams: "Last year, the contest theme celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. Help Us Invite Ricky Martin! Join Our # Campaign!

Amigos! Please help us! Record a short video on your phone, inviting Ricky Martin , and share it with hashtags on your social media platforms! Ricky Martin's incredible commitment to supporting arts and children is an inspiration! We hope to be able to reach him personally - or at least someone from the Ricky Martin Foundation. Getting someone of his global stature to just say "Hello" to our students would be immeasurably valuable in motivating and encouraging them to persevere! We launched a social media campaign on all platforms on August 10th, using @ and # in the hopes of spreading the word and getting Ricky Martin's attention.
